Income Statement Quiz Answers & Explanations
Question 1: B. Revenue & Expenses
An Income Statement measures a business's financial performance by summarizing its Revenue and Expenses over a period of time.
It shows whether the business has generated a Profit or incurred a Loss during the reporting period.
Question 2: C. Income earned from selling goods or services
Under Accrual Accounting, Revenue is recognized when it's earned, not necessarily when cash is received.
For example, if a business provides services to a customer on credit, it generally recognizes the Revenue when the services are provided, even if the customer pays later.
Question 3: C. Cost of Administration
Direct Costs are costs that can be directly linked to the goods or services a business sells.
Administration costs are usually classified as Indirect Costs because they relate to running the business as a whole, rather than producing or delivering a specific product or service.
Question 4: B. $5,000
Operating Profit is calculated by subtracting Operating Expenses from Gross Profit.
Operating Profit = Gross Profit − Operating Expenses
Operating Profit = $8,000 − $3,000
Operating Profit = $5,000
The business generated $5,000 in Operating Profit during March, before accounting for non-operating expenses such as Interest and Tax.
Question 5: A. $11,800
Net Profit is the final profit remaining after all expenses have been deducted.
In this example, we subtract Interest Expense and Tax Expense from Operating Profit.
Net Profit = Operating Profit − Interest Expense − Tax Expense
Net Profit = $17,500 − $3,200 − $2,500
Net Profit = $11,800
The business generated $11,800 in Net Profit during November.
